Vinory ("the App") is a wine tasting note app developed by giginet ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the App does with your data.

The short version: the App has no server of its own. Everything you record stays on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud account. We cannot see it. The one exception is reading a wine label from a photo, which may go through Apple's Private Cloud Compute — never through us. That is described below.

What the App stores

The App stores the tasting notes you write: the wine's name, type, vintage, country, appellation and grape variety; the tasting impressions you select; your free-text memos; and the folder you filed the note in. It also stores any photos you take or choose for a note, and your settings.

The App does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, location, or contacts.

Where that data lives

• On your device. Notes and photos are saved in the App's own storage on your iPhone and iPad.
• In your iCloud account. If you are signed in to iCloud and iCloud Drive is enabled, notes sync between your devices through Apple's CloudKit private database. That database belongs to your Apple Account. We have no access to it, and neither does anyone else.
• Nowhere else. The App does not send your notes to us or to any third party. We operate no analytics server and no backend of any kind.

Reading a wine label from a photo

When you ask the App to fill in a note from a photo, the photo is passed to Apple's on-device foundation model, or to Private Cloud Compute when that model is available and the on-device one is not enough.

• Private Cloud Compute runs on Apple silicon servers. Your photo is used only to produce that one answer. Apple states that the data is not retained after the request completes and is not accessible to Apple.
• The photo never reaches us. We receive nothing from this process — not the photo, not the text read from it, not the fact that you used it.
• This only happens when you explicitly ask the App to read a label. Photos you simply attach to a note are never sent anywhere.
• If Private Cloud Compute is unavailable, the App falls back to the model on your device, and the photo does not leave your device at all.

Camera and photos

The App asks for camera access so you can photograph a bottle for a note. Photos you take or select are stored in that note, and sync through iCloud along with the rest of it. The App does not read your photo library beyond the images you pick.

You can withdraw camera permission at any time in Settings → Vinory.
